Sheet Metal Associate

Position Description:

As a Sheet Metal Associate Associate, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair of sheet metal equipment, products and structures in one of Goodyear's Chemical manufacturing plants. Goodyear Chemical is a division of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company which manufactures and markets rubber-related chemicals for various applications. You will also promote safety, environmental stewardship and housekeeping throughout the facility.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, install and repair sheet metal parts, products and equipment, utilizing knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials, machining and lay out techniques, using hand-tools, power tools, machines, and equipment
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or products specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabrication, assembling, and installing sheet metal products
• Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials, apply knowledge of shop mathematics and lay-out techniques to develop and trace patterns to product or parts
• Set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, and forming rolls, to cut, bend, block and form or straighten materials
• Shape materials over anvil, block or other forms, using hand tools. Trim, file, grind, buff, and smooth surfaces, using hand tools and portable power tools. Weld, solder, bolt, rivet, screw, clip, caulk, and bond component parts to assemble products, using hand tools, power tools, and equipment
• Inspect assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments required
• Abide by safe work standards including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Fall Protection, Confined Spaces, and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Adhere to Goodyear's attendance policy
• Perform a variety of manual tasks in varying temperatures for extended periods of time, which may include lifting light to heavy materials, climbing, standing, squatting, bending, and working at heights when applicable.

Basic Qualifications: 

• HS Diploma/GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship now or in the future
• Must be able to successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment contingencies
• Ability to work any and/or rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, or overtime if applicable
• Basic computer skills
• 5+ years' experience in the sheet craft

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in industrial manufacturing environment
• Completion of an Apprenticeship Program or other formal technical training
• Journeyman's card
• Previous military service experience within a technical specialty
